Join the Davidson Choir Family. We’re happy to you’re here. Welcome, students and community members alike.
Fall 2025 auditions are now closed, but if you were and remain interested in participating, please promptly email reberlin@davidson.edu with your information. Some singers may be admitted on a case-by-case rolling basis, and we’d love to hear from you!
Auditions for the Davidson College Choirs are held in mid-to-late August in Director Renata Berlin's office (Sloan 102, Sloan Music Center, Davidson College Campus). Auditions are 12 minutes in length and are welcoming. We have two choirs for students, as well as a robust community choir for faculty, staff, and community members from the Charlotte and Lake Norman area.

We're so happy you're eager to join the Davidson College Choirs. New and returning members alike, no stressing. We promise that the audition will be welcoming.
Please plan to arrive 10 minutes ahead of your slot so you can fill out a form ahead of your audition.
You do not need to prepare anything, however if you have something 1-2 minutes in length prepared that you’d like to share, just let us know. We’d be happy to hear it.
During the audition, we will first chat. We need to confirm your commitment to the musical discipline and artistry that leads to choral excellence. Our rehearsals are fun and engaging, but they are also rigorous––we learn and perform a lot of music every year, and the professionalism that we bring to each of our performances is a result of a great deal of hard work that requires attendance at all rehearsals and commitment to building excellence and positive esprit de corps.
Then, we’ll do some vocal exercises that give us a better picture of your range, etc., and potentially some basic sight reading and ear exercises.
And perhaps you’re thinking, “I haven’t done some of that in years!” or “I’m not confident in that!” STILL, come on in. You are welcome, wherever you are. Singing is a lifelong sport, and with practice, we can get there together.

Private voice lessons are available to any student for a fee, and students may take half-hour or one-hour lessons for no-credit ($) or for-credit ($). Private voice lessons give students an opportunity to learn more about their own singing instrument in a supportive and nurturing environment that allows for maximum growth and development as an artist. Beginners are welcome to sign up for lessons to explore their potential, and experienced or advanced singers will find themselves challenged both technically and musically in their lessons. Vocal lesson scholarships are available. Please email Professor Jacque Culpepper at jaculpepper@davidson.edu to get started!
